Yellow nanohana blossoms and blooming cherry trees offer gorgeously contrasting colors of nature at Akagi Nanmen Senbonzakura
Gunma Prefecture
Spring in Japan is famous for cherry blossoms, and Maebashi in Gunma is home to a well-known spot where an entire field of yellow nanohana flowers bloom alongside them, creating a gorgeous contrast of colors.
Located on the southern slope of Mount Akagi, Akagi Nanmen Senbonzakura features 1,000 cherry trees that stretch for over 1.3 kilometers and typically begin to bloom around late March, with their peak in early April. The nanohana flowers bloom in the same period, forming a vivid yellow carpet along the row of cherry trees. When in full bloom, the cherry blossoms form a stunning tunnel for you to walk through. Lit up at night, they offer a magical experience very different than during the day.
Selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, this great spot is just a two-hour drive away from Tokyo, so you can rent a car and easily drive over for a pleasant day trip. There are many more spots around Gunma where you can enjoy flowers of all kinds, so be sure to check them out as well.
