Discover Kodaira’s unique, hidden spots for sakura viewing
Kodaira City, Tokyo
Come discover some of Japan’s hidden cherry blossom spots: Koganei Park and the Kodaira Green Road. Take a stroll along the cherry blossom–lined Green Road, then head over to view over 1,700 cherry trees at Koganei Park. The best time for cherry blossoms along the Green Road and at Koganei Park is from the end of March to early April.
The Kodaira Green Road has three stretches: the Sayama Sakai Green Way, the Tamagawa Josui canal, and the Nobidome canal. The Sayama Sakai Green Way and Tamagawa Josui canal meet at Koganei Park. Along the Tamagawa Josui canal, which is just south of Koganei Park, are yamazakura cherry trees, which were planted back in the 1700s. This location has been famous for cherry blossoms since the Edo-era. After a stroll along the Green Road, head to Koganei Park to set up for a hanami (flower viewing) picnic.
The Kodaira Green Road offers beautiful scenery year-round, with hydrangeas in early summer and colorful leaves in the fall, and is right in front of Hana-Koganei Station.
How to get there
From Tokyo Station, take the Yamanote Line to Takadanobaba Station, and then the Seibu Line to Hana-Koganei Station (about 45 minutes).
