Make the most out of your visit to Kanazawa with these scenic (yet easy-to-reach) day trip destinations
Kanazawa City Tourism Association
If you are visiting Kanazawa, why don’t you extend your stay for one more day and do a quick day trip to another city? You will be surprised by how many fascinating choices you have. Noto and Shirakawago are two of the most popular destinations. They can be easily reached by car, but bus tours are also available for people who cannot drive in Japan. The Noto Peninsula has been designated as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS), under the denomination of ‘Noto’s Satoyama and Satoumi’. If you have a car, the route that connects the Chirihama Nagisa Driveway, where you can drive on the shore right by the water, and Noto Kongo, a coastline carved out by the rough waves of the ocean, is a good scenic drive, especially at sunset. A day trip to the villages of Shirakawago and Gokayama, registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site, is recommended to those seeking good old Japan. The view from the observation deck at Shirakawago is magnificent.
How to get there
It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes from Tokyo Station to Kanazawa Station via direct JR Hokuriku Shinkansen.
