Ride on Japan’s longest snow-tube slide and chill in a snow dome

Furano Tourism Association

Furano in the centre of Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido is known for vast, vibrant fields of blooming lavender, poppies, lilies and sunflowers in the summer months and huge amounts of snow in the winter months. Visit between late December and early March to experience Kan Kan Mura, a snow theme park that pops up every year offering attractions, food and drink in a fantasy winter village.

Slide over 200 meters down Japan’s longest snow-tubing ride on a large tire inner tube, try snow rafting, banana boat and snowmobile rides, and dog sledding. Afterwards, take a break in a Snow Café, a snow dome made of around 2,000 snow blocks. Sit at a table and chair made of snow and sip on a drink served in an ice mug.

The illuminated walking paths, lined with ice lamps and ice sculptures, provide lots of opportunities for photographs in this beautiful winter village.

Furano Kan Kan Mura Snow Night Fantasy is open from the end of December until early March each year (depending on snow conditions). Opening hours are 16:00-21:00, with last entry at 19:30.

How to get there

Located in front of the New Furano Prince Hotel, Kankanmura is 10 minutes by car from JR Furano Station or 1 hour by car from Asahikawa Airport.
