Camp on a mountaintop with a panoramic sea view

Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture

Marine Park Takobana, known as “Cape of the Sky,” sits atop the northernmost tip of the Shimane Peninsula, offering a panoramic view of the sea. Its enclave of 15 wood cabins and 20 camping spaces is so secluded that all that surrounds it is the rich greenery of the mountainside. The sunrise and sunset are visible from every cabin.

Everything you need for your stay is available for rent, from sleeping bags and floor mats to garden furniture and barbecue equipment. Bring your own food or order local specialties for delivery from stores in the neighboring fishing village.

If you would like to venture further, there are tranquil beaches nearby for swimming day trips, but be sure to return in time for a captivating view of the sun setting over the sea. On clear nights, Marine Park Takobana is the perfect location for stargazing. Look out to sea and you may also see silhouettes of squid fishing boats drifting across the horizon.

How to get there
