An adventurous and environmentally friendly experience for those who are not afraid to explore the unknown

Oki Islands Geopark Management Bureau

If you are looking for areas of Japan that are still unexplored by international visitors, the Oki Islands, located on the Sea of Japan off the coast of Shimane Prefecture, are a must-go destination. Boasting breathtaking seascapes and a unique ecosystem, these islands are designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark and are the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature. The Oki Jungle Trekking & Packraft Ecotour combines outdoor sports with environmental education and is highly recommended for those interested in ecological issues and sustainability.

The English-speaking guide will take you on a short trek down to the sea through untamed nature. Once you reach the coast, work as a team to clean marine debris washed up on this otherwise inaccessible coast. After cleaning is done, get ready for an adventure in a packraft! Follow the guide to paddle between the impressive Saburo-iwa Rocks, along the coast and then towards a small inlet. The tour concludes with a relaxing coffee and snack break by the sea. If the timing is right, you might see the sunset!

This tour is organized by NPO Oki Shizen Mura, an organization that not only offers ecotours, but also implements projects for nature protection and sustainable regional development. You can be sure that they have a wealth of knowledge and many local stories to share!
