Setouchi Island Cruise
Since the Seto Inland Sea opened twelve islands to art and culture for the Setouchi Triennale, it has become a world-renowned scenic destination of museums, installations, and events. Only accessible by boat, the islands feature numerous cultural attractions, from small art projects on Ogijima to Tadao Ando’s Chichu Art Museum on Naoshima.
Instead of navigating ferry schedules, depart from Shikoku’s Takamatsu port on a luxury cruise boat for a privately chartered journey to islands of your choice. Pick from Setouchi Island Cruise’s affordable two-hour tours, or splash out and plan a leisurely custom journey across the sea. Couples, families, or groups of friends are welcome to enjoy onboard services and relax in private spaces in the crafts’ cabin areas, or simply sit back to enjoy panoramic views from the deck.
Recommended sights en route include Teshima’s contemporary art museum, designed by architect Ryue Nishizawa; Shodoshima’s soy-sauce museum; and Honjima’s many Edo period (1603–1868) landmarks. For a magnificent view of the waters, take a Setouchi Sunset Cruise and end the day with the golden sun dipping below the horizon.
From Shin-Osaka Station, take the Shinkansen bullet train and Rapid Marine Liner to Takamatsu Station (about 2 hours and 5 minutes). From Takamatsu Station, walk to Takamatsu Port (about 1 minute).
