HOME > Japan’s Local Treasures > Yame Central Tea Plantation

Gentle slopes covered with lush green tea bushes a short drive away from Yame

Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture

If you have traveled around Japan, no doubt you have had your fair share of green tea. But have you ever heard of or tried “Yame-cha”?

As a city, Yame takes great pride in its delicious tea. Tea bushes can be seen all over the city and countryside, and with a bit of driving, you can find the Yame Central Tea Plantation. At the top of a hill is a shrine with plenty of parking spaces where you can stop to take in the 360-degree view of lush green tea bushes. The sight is truly breathtaking—a picture does not do it justice. Drive up to the Yame Central Tea Plantation and have a look for yourself—you won’t regret it.

How to get there

From Hakata Station, take the JR Kyushu Shinkansen to Chikugo Funagoya Station (24 minutes), then take a taxi to the location (30 minutes).
