Koganezaki Furofushi Onsen, located in the west of Aomori Prefecture, faces the Sea of Japan and is renowned for its seaside panoramic open-air bath.
You can enjoy a dip while admiring a beautiful sunset and changing tides. The hot spring is situated just on the rocky coastline, a short walk from the ryokan (Japanese style inn) itself, and when the rough waves of the Sea of Japan come rolling in against the rocky shore, the spectacular view stretches out for miles on each end.
As the area is located within a Special Protection Zone of a National Park, there are no lighting facilities and thus, the open-air bath is only open for use from sunrise to sunset. Do note that sunset open-air bathing is limited to guests who stay at the ryokan, where there are also indoor baths offering an excellent view of the Sea of Japan.
This area is also known as one of the best places to enjoy stargazing by the sea. Just outside the ryokan, there is a deck for one to enjoy the night sky while listening to the waves of the sea. Relax and indulge oneself with the surroundings.
While there, visit the nearby Shirakami-Sanchi Mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which contains the last virgin beech forests in Japan.

How to get there :From Tokyo, it is approximately 3 hours by Tohoku Shinkansen. Get off at JR Shin-Aomori Station. Transfer to JR Oba Main Line or JR Gono Line and get off at WeSPa Tsubakiyama Station after about 3 hours. Then, it is approximately 40 minutes ride by hotel shuttle bus.
