Zao Okama

The Okama is a crater lake that is shaped similarly to a traditional cooking pot. It has a circumference of 1,000 metres and a depth of 27 metres. It is also known as “Goshikinuma” (5 coloured lake) depending on the light intensity as it hits the water surface; the colour of the lake changes. During summer, alpine plants can be enjoyed while views of red autumn colours are visible from September to November. Best time to visit: May to October
