International Bird-Watching destination in eastern Hokkaido
Birdwatchers from around the world know the Shunkunitai area of Nemuro, in eastern Hokkaido, as a premier destination. Over 300 bird species live in the diverse habitats around Lake Furen, which include seashores, tidal flats, grasslands, marshes and forests. Visitors can observe many varieties of alpine flora and salt-tolerant plants in addition to wild birds.
