Built in 766, Rinnoji Temple is a Tendai Buddhist temple inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Shrines and Temples of Nikko. At the Ogomado Hall and the Chuzenji temple of Okunikko located within the Sannai area of several temples and halls, you can also try your hand at traditional Buddhist practices such as sutra copying. Many valuable artifacts and architectures can be found on the temple grounds, some of which are National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties designated by the Japanese government. The most famous sight is the three 7.5-meter-tall Buddha statues in the Sanbutsudo building. Immerse yourself in the tranquil air filling this sacred site full of historical gems.
