Hop on a rental cycle and explore the idyllic countryside of Gifu Prefecture along the Nagara River (one of Japan’s clearest rivers). Beyond the natural beauty of the area, cyclists can stop and experience its spiritual history at tranquil shrines tucked away in verdant forests. A 22-kilometer-long guided tour starts at Gujo Hachiman Station on the Nagara River Railroad, and offers the opportunity to cycle through the retro streets of Gujo, a former castle town. Stop at temples, shrines, and other historical sites along the way, and take a break at a tea shop while enjoying the rich natural beauty of the Nagara River. After a day of cycling, soak your muscles in the soothing waters of hot springs in Minami Kodakara Onsen.
