Worshipped since ancient times, Tokyo’s Mt. Mitake beckons visitors with the spiritual and healing energy that emanates from its heights. Hiking to the Musashi Mitake Shrine at its 929-meter summit is easy with help from the cable car, and beginners will find the trails to be accessible. Along the way you will pass by the cascading waters of Nanayo Falls and Ayahiro Falls, and travel through a moss-covered area known as the "Rock Garden." Trails from Mt. Mitake also lead to Mt. Odake and Mt. Hinode, and eagle-eyed hikers might even spot the elusive flying squirrels that call the mountain home.
