Extended Stays

Stay longer — enjoy an extended stay at a Japanese snow resort

Visitors to Japan's snowy regions have a wealth of accommodation options to choose from. Nozawa Onsen, Hakuba, Niseko, Myoko Kogen, and Zao Onsen are just some of the resorts in Japan offering snow travelers comfortable, longer-stay options. Nozawa Onsen alone has more than 80 lodgings at all price points.

If you want to experience famed Japanese hospitality, consider a ryokan stay. These traditional inns generally offer in-room dining and onsen baths. However, as ryokan tend to be on the higher end of the price scale, consider a pension or minshuku for a more budget-friendly option with shared bathrooms and dining areas. If you are traveling as a family or in a larger group, you may find condominium rentals more appealing. Having a kitchen is a significant benefit for groups, and condominiums can end up being cheaper per person, as Japanese inns often charge per person rather than per room.

Hakuba, in particular, has many condo developments surrounding the mountain and town, and these condos have restaurants and supermarkets nearby for diverse dining over an extended visit. Further north in Niseko, luxury hotels have been built close to the mountain, sometimes abutting the ski lodges. Like Hakuba, Niseko has a large number of condominiums.
