Built around 717 AD in a mixture of Japanese and Indian styles, Tsubosaka-dera Temple is one of the most unique temples of Japan. In the temple grounds, there are several Indian-style Buddhas, a Taj Mahal-style sanctuary, and bas-relief carvings all in white stone, which were given as a gift from India as thanks for the temple’s work to help leprosy sufferers. The temple is also known for its healing abilities. Cherry blossom trees are planted around the Buddha statue, and in the spring, you can see the Sakura Daibutsu, which is the sight of Buddha covered in cherry blossoms.
How to get there
From Shin-Osaka Station: Take the JR Kobe Line to Tennoji Station (about 20 minutes), then walk to Kintetsu Osaka Abenobashi Station (just across the street from Tennoji) and take the Kintetsu Limited Express to Tsubosakayama Station (about 40 minutes).
