Fireworks in a natural geographic basin make things really go boom

The Atami Fireworks Festival is held regularly throughout the year, not only in summer, and is renowned throughout Japan. The town's natural geography amplifies the drama of the displays.

Don't Miss

  • The climax of the event, which is called “Niagara Falls in the Sky"
  • Checking the seasonal calendar for the next pyrotechnics

How to Get There

The Atami Fireworks Festival is a 15-minute walk from Atami Station.

JR Atami Station is a stop on the Ito Line and the JR Tokaido Shinkansen. The bullet train takes about 50 minutes from Tokyo Station .

Niagara Falls in the sky

Atami, on the eastern side of the Izu Peninsula , is a popular tourist destination, and the regular fireworks displays are one of its biggest draws.

Atami sits on the coast in a natural basin created by the surrounding mountains, which means the explosions echo around the town, increasing the impact and drama. The climax is the “Niagara Falls in the Sky."

Lighting up every season

While many towns in Japan limit fireworks to the summer season, Atami believes you can't have too much of a good thing, holding a handful in every season. The exact dates change each year, so check the official website for the most up-to-date listings.
