Savor Fantastically Fresh Fish in Kesennuma
Take in the sights and tastes at one of northeastern Japan's most lively fish markets
The port town of Kesennuma sits along the rocky Sanriku Coast. For early risers and foodies, a tour of the Kesennuma fish market is a must.
The fisherman will be selling their daily catches to some of Japan’s best restaurants, so you’ll be able to see just how the Japanese supply chain works to get fish fresh from the sea to your dining table. Kesennuma produces most of the shark and swordfish in Japan, but their skipjack tuna and oysters are also in high demand.
Prepare to do a little walking, as the tour takes about 1 hour and starts at 6:45 in the morning at the stairway outside the Umi no Ichi shopping center, by the large parking lot. Your guide will explain the whole process in English. Your guide may use supplemental pictures or objects
to help with explaining during the tour.
After your group finishes at the market, you can optionally choose to get breakfast from a nearby restaurant that sources their fish from the fish market, ensuring delicious and fresh quality.
