Kagawa | Fall Foliage in Kankakei Gorge

Fall foliage in Setonaikai National Park Shodoshima, Kankakei Gorge

This stunning landscape of peculiarly shaped rocks and cliffs started forming when layers of andesite and blocks of volcanic breccia--produced by volcanic activity approximately 1,300 years ago--were gradually shaped by movements of the Earth’s crust and the erosion by wind and rain. Kankakei Gorge has been named one of Japan’s top three most beautiful gorges and is known to be one of the outstanding beauties of Shodoshima. The view from the ropeway, which travels through the fall foliage valley, is breathtaking and is well worth the visit.
