Marugame Castle (completed in 1602) has a long 420-year history(completed in 1602) and is one of 12 castles with wooden castle towers that still exist in Japan. There are three main sightseeing attractions: the castle with the highest and most beautiful stone walls, the smallest castle tower, and the deepest well in Japan.

The stone wall is 66 meters high and was built stone by stone by stonemasons over 400 years ago. The castle tower was built to monitor the castle town and the Seto Inland Sea, so it has a very compact three-layer, three-story structure. Ninomaru's well is so deep (over 60m) that there are some scary tales associated with it. When you visit the castle, please take a look into the well.

However, part of the stone wall of Marugame Castle is currently collapsed due to a natural disaster. It was a sad event for the local residents, but it is a valuable sight that can only be seen at the site where the stone walls are being rebuilt.

Finally, when you come to the castle, be sure to check out the spectacular view of the Seto Inland Sea and Sanuki Plain from the castle tower. Also worth visiting are the well, which you won’t be able to resist looking into, and the stone wall restoration site (until the end of 2028) that combines modern and traditional Japanese construction techniques.

Also, inside the castle, you can try your hand at making Marugame fans, a traditional craft that Marugame is proud of around the world.

Furthermore, please look forward to staying at Shirohaku, which was created by renovating the historic Enjukaku Bekkan building in Sannomaru of Marugame Castle into a lodging facility.
