Kagawa | Marugame Castle of Kagawa

Marugame Castle, the highest stone walls in the castle of Japan.
Marugame Castle is a symbol of the city which has a long history of over 420 years. The castle is well-known for the height of the stone walls (about 66m), the size of the castle keep, and the depth of the well (65m). The stone walls are called “Ogi no kobai” (Japanese paper fan-like curved line) and praised for their beautiful curve.
The stone walls are currently in reconstruction due to the natural disaster. However, seeing the current state would offer a valuable experience to understand Japan that can only be seen now. Although the castle is three-layers of three stories, the castle keep is not as big as it looks and it is very compact. The castle keep is constructed with old Japanese architectural techniques. The well in “Ninomaru” is the deepest and has a scary anecdote. When you come here, please look into the well. At last, you can enjoy the panorama of Marugame city and the Seto Inland Sea from the castle top.
