Coordinated by the Nachi Katsuura Tourism Organization, the Kumano-Nachi Guide Association operates several guided tours in the Kumano-Nachi area. One of their most exciting seasonal tours offers you the opportunity to hike through the Primeval Forest of Nachisan between February and May with the guidance of local experts. Registered as a World Heritage Site, the forest is usually off-limits to visitors and has remained unchanged through the ages. As you step into this sacred area, you can feel the world of Shinto, the Japanese indigenous religion. In the Nachisan Primeval Forest, you can find 48 waterfalls. The tour will bring you to the Nachi Waterfall, also known as Ichi-no-taki or Nachi-no-taki, which is the most iconic waterfall, as well as to Ni-no-taki (Second Fall) and San-no-taki (Third Fall). A memorable experience awaits you in the ancient, spiritual heart of Japan. Tours are required to enter the sacred area. The tour is available only from February to June.
