Introducing "HIGH RAIL 1375", one of JR East's "joyful trains". This train runs on the Koumi Line, which connects Kobuchizawa Station in Yamanashi Prefecture and Komoro Station in Nagano Prefecture, and boasts the highest elevation out of any of Japan Railways' lines. Due to these characteristics, JR has embraced the theme of "the train closest to the sky". The "1375" in its namesake refers to the highest point on the JR line, located between Nobeyama Station and Kiyosato Station, which stands at a staggering 1375m .
The interior design of the car is also quite unique, with elaborate interiors such as seats with the stars of the four seasons and blackboard-like art and other decor, which is bound to make your trip even more exciting. But most recommeneded is the train's second car, "Gallery HIGH RAIL". The car is home to several books on astronomy, with the bookshelves arranged in a circular shape, and the starry sky projected on the hemispherical dome installed on the ceiling!
Passengers are also invited to participate in stargazing events, held during a 50-minute stopover at Nobeyama Station (occasionally inside the train, depending on the weather). You can also enjoy stories and tips about the stars, and learn about the constellations of the seasons under the direction of a guide.
In the fall and winter, the dry weather makes the stars in the night sky look more beautiful. If you are considering a trip to the Koshinetsu region, why not plan a trip with "HIGH RAIL 1375"?
