One of the three largest fireworks festivals in Japan, the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival returns from August 2-3.

In the summer, Omuta's sky burns bright red, and floats resembling giant snakes parade through the city's main streets, their eyes wide open and their gaping mouths spitting seven-colored sparks. 

The new, 2600 square metre "Kurume Bougainvillea Forest" opened last month in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
