TeamLab Planets Receives Accolades at the World Travel Awards

Since its opening in 2018,  Toyosu Ward's teamLab Planets in has enjoyed massive popularity. This year, that popularity has seen itself recognized by World Travel Awards, with teamLab earning the title of “Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2023” at the September 6th ceremony in Ho Chi Minh.

Now one of the most recognized names in the Tokyo art scene, teamLab is an international art collective that began its activities in 2001. The interdisciplinary group explores the intersection of art, science, technology, and the natural world through collective creativity. The team consists of specialists from various fields, including artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, and architects, pooling their respective skills to create interacitve works of art, which have been exhibited across the globe.

Among these works is teamLab Planets - a sprawling installation located in Tokyo's Toyosu Ward. The installation consists of large-scale artwork spaces which use digital art to replicate natural environments, inviting visitors to step in and become a part of the exhibits themselves. teamLab Planets has enjoyed huge popularity in the five years that it has been open, and has seen its exhibition period extended due to popular demand on multiple occations. Once slated to conclude in 2020, the most recent extension will see the exhibit continue until 2027.

Described by The Wall Street Journal as "the Oscars of the travel industry", The World Travel Awards have celebrated excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries for over three decades. In earning the taward for Asia's Leading Tourist Attraction 2023, teamLab Planets will also be nominated to bide with winners from other regions, in hopes of winning the “World's Leading Tourist Attraction 2023” in December, 2023.
