Introducing: Railway Pass Search Japan

Looking for the perfect rail pass for your trip to Japan? The nationwide JR Pass, which covers the vast majority of rail service in the country, has long been thought of as a must for tourists visiting Japan. However, while the pass still offers great value for those travelling long distances, those sticking to one or two areas may find themselves in search of more affordable, localized alternatives.

Japan has this in droves - so much that it can be hard to keep track of! That's where Rail Pass Search Japan comes in. A pilot project from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. designed to offer a consolidated index of transit passes available for tourists visiting Japan. Users can scroll down to see a quick overview, including time span, price, and target areas for each of the passes - refining their search options according to these and other fields. Users less familar with Japanese geography can also select regions on an interactive map, to filter results. 

Informative and easy to use, though is still in the workshopping stages. The pilot is ongoing until February 25th, so act fast, and be sure to complete the survey, to ensure that this and even further refined resources for transit in Japan are developed going forward!
