New Carry-on Power Bank Regulations are Coming into Effect from Apr 24, 2026 (JST)

In order to enhance onboard safety, new measures regarding use of mobile batteries/power banks will be implemented as of April 24, 2026, as outlined in a press release issued by Japan's  Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

 

The key points are as follows:

• A maximum limit 2 power banks (each ≤160Wh) in carry‑on will be implemented

• Charging power banks onboard aircrafts no longer permitted

• Using power banks to charge devices onboard aircrafts no longer permitted

 

In addition, the following pages from JAL and ANA provide airline-specific guidance on carry-on restrictions for power banks and lithium-ion batteries.

Passengers flying with the aforementioned airlines (whether domestic or international), are advised to follow the rules set by the Japanese aviation authorities. Passengers flying with non-Japanese airlines on international routes are advised to further consult the relevant airline's webpage for further peace of mind.
