Ueda: Home of Samurai, Castles, Hot Springs, and Nature

【Partners Information】An hour and a half away from Tokyo by bullet train is Ueda, a city on the Eastern side of Nagano prefecture. Nestled along the Chikuma River, a deep sense of history permeates throughout this small city.

Be it Ueda Johseki Park - former home of the Sanada samurai clan which repelled the Tokugawa not one, but three times, Bessho onsen - the prefecture’s oldest hot springs district, or and Anrakuji Temple - the octagonal pagoda designated a national treasure, there are plenty of sights to be enjoyed in this culturally rich area.

Ueda is on the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line, just 12 minutes south of Nagano Station, also accessible by the Shinano Railway local line.
