A Beach and Forest Stay Offering the Best of Both Worlds

Lose yourself in a renovated traditional guest house surrounded by nature

Hïsom in Yunotsu Onsen town is an ideal getaway from the bustling city. Envelop yourself in woodsy aromas and the sounds of the forest, then marvel at majestic waves crashing onto the shore at the beach. You’re sure to get deeper in touch with Mother Earth at this traditional villa in rural Shimane Prefecture that borders the ocean. Slide open the wooden door, and you’ll find classic tatami mat flooring. The iconic Japanese-style interior will immediately lead you into another world. Relax in the spacious rooms or read a book in the lush green backyard. Prepare food together with family and friends in the fully open kitchen or barbecue patio, or book in advance to enjoy a catered lunch or dinner. Forget your everyday worries and spend quality moments in an undisturbed space.

Be sure to also tour the surrounding areas; the magnificent mountains and ocean vistas of Shimane are sure to impress. Stroll through a primeval forest or take a short walk down a path to arrive at a sandy beach. Go for a swim, fish (fishing gear is available), or simply appreciate the breathtaking views of nature’s creation. For those looking for more marine activities, sea kayak and stand-up paddleboard experiences can be found just a 15-minute drive away.

Also, while you’re here, be sure to try a selection of the exquisite local delicacies. Hïsom provides the simplest but most fulfilling pleasures.

Access: From Tokyo Haneda Airport, fly to Izumo Airport (about one hour 25 minutes), then take the Airport Limousine Bus to Izumo Station (about 30 minutes) and transfer to the San-in Line for Yunotsu Station (about 40 minutes). Hïsom is five minutes away by taxi; pick-up is also available.
