Indulge in a Perfect Cup of Tea

Explore Ureshino City, the heartland for tea in Saga

Tea, hot springs, and pottery: these have been at the heart of Ureshino City, Saga Prefecture since ancient times. Tea in particular has been cultivated here since the 16th century, and Ureshino offers a variety of exclusive tea experiences, supported by the Ureshino Chadoki project.

Like the myriad white flowers that bloom in the tea plantations in the mountains surrounding Ureshino, several unique “tea spaces” have sprung up within the plantations. Tenchadai, or “Tea Observatory,” has a patio decorated with elegant umbrellas where you can sip a warming cup while overlooking the city and the majestic mountains. Mori no Chashitsu, the “Forest Tea Room,” offers a 360-degree tea sanctuary surrounded by cypress and cedar trees. Chatou, or “Tea Tower,” provides a view out as far as the eye can see, straight to a superb view of Omura Bay in the distance, all right from the comfort of the tea garden. Yoshida Chashitsu, or “Yoshida Tea Room,” was created through the renovation of the kiln area of a ceramics factory. Today, it is a special tea space that doubles as a pottery gallery.

Choose the venue and enjoy a private tea ceremony complete with traditional Japanese sweets. While you are in Ureshino, supplement your journey by walking or cycling between tea gardens and pottery workshops.
