Digital art turns the Nagai Botanical Garden into a shimmering world of light and sound

When night falls, Nagai Botanical Garden, in southeast Osaka City, becomes teamLab Botanical Garden, an interactive digital experience created by high-tech art collective teamLab. Monoliths swirling with color; fields of glowing globes; luminescent streams that flow through the air—the immersive artworks in the night garden are digital constructs of light and sound fully integrated with their environment. They react and adapt to the wind, the rain, and the birds flitting through the trees. As you explore this magical space, you’ll see your own movements reflected in the art as well. 

The Nagai Botanical Garden’s 24 hectares are home to wild birds, flowers, and over a thousand species of trees, with a scenic lake at the center. Though artificially created, it has become a full-fledged ecosystem with seasonal changes that incorporates even the residents of the surrounding city. teamLab Botanical Garden was created to merge with this ecosystem without harming it, eliminating the distinction between art and nature.
