ITINERARY

A four-day trip to Kyoto's seaside hideaways and the San'in area

Where you can enjoy sightseeing experiences related to the Expo's theme

Embrace outdoor exploration in Kyoto and the San’in region. First, step off the beaten path in Kyoto, and lodge in a traditional Japanese boathouse nestled in a quaint seaside village. Then, explore Tottori’s renowned sand dunes, and later, embark on a historically insightful hike on Mt. Daisen.

Day 1: Lodge in a funaya boathouse in Ine, Kyoto. Related to the Expo's theme, "connecting lives."

Admire the traditional houses of Japanese fishermen, called funaya, in Ine, a "funaya town that coexists with nature." The enchanting area has been designated as a "Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings." Enjoy the quaint views via a guided walk, electric bicycle tour or sea taxi tour. Ine no Funaya is a precious symbol that connects the vitality of life inherent in Japan's traditional culture to the future.

Day 2: Tottori Sand Dunes Adventure Tourism

The Tottori Sand Dunes are coastal sand dunes with one of the largest undulations in the world! The dunes' appearances change not only between day and night but also with the passing seasons. Enjoy different experiences in the landscape's "rich variety of expressions," including sandboarding, Segway riding, paragliding, biking and stargazing.

Day 3: Mt. Daisen trekking with optional Matsue/Yonago sightseeing. Related to the Expo's theme, "saving lives."

Enjoy a guided walk, and learn about the history of Daisenji Temple and Ogamiyama Shrine and how they connect to nature, as well as the natural characteristics of Mt. Daisen, a national park. Immerse yourself in the area through communication. The tour is a journey where you will learn about the importance of symbiotic coexistence, experience how nature saves lives, and feel the breath of life itself.

Day 4: Travel from Shimane (Izumo Airport) to Tokyo (Haneda Airport)
