Upopoy – Expo 2025: Live to Travel, Travel to Live

Upopoy

The Upopoy National Ainu Museum and Park introduces Ainu culture in the grand nature of the adjacent Lake Poroto. Here, visitors can immerse their five senses in Ainu culture with a variety of exhibits and programs, such as Ainu traditional dances and recreations of traditional cise (houses). The craft studio and workshop also offer demonstrations and hands-on experiences of playing musical instruments and making traditional crafts. Even the onsite restaurant serves dishes made with traditional Ainu ingredients. Please visit, and experience the charm of Ainu culture!

Local insights

My name is Satoru Kameda. I joined the company in 2023 and am in charge of visitor attraction and public relations for Upopoy. I work daily on public relations, plan events, and participate in sales at events to promote the facility and encourage people to visit Upopoy and experience the Ainu culture.

Upopoy and Expo 2025

Upopoy’s offerings illustrate the importance of cultural experiences and the inheritance of traditions, both of which represent the Expo theme, "Connecting Lives." By engaging with Ainu's unique traditional dances, music, and crafts that have been passed down for generations, you can truly sense the significance of cultural preservation and exchange.

Q1: How does this attraction bring tourists and locals together?
