Japan is known for its rich cultural offerings, and in 2023 and beyond, there are several exciting events happening around the country that you should definitely consider adding to your itinerary. These include new cutting-edge art installations, re-openings for a couple of fantastic museums and new and fascinating theme parks and trade exhibitions.

Also in 2023, the Japan Tourism Agency is hosting the "Open the Treasure of Japan" campaign, a chance to explore Japan from any angle that fascinates you, through an incredible variety of different activities.

While details regarding the museum are still forthcoming, “DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab Borderless” in Azabudai Hills will offer visitors a unique glimpse into the future of urban life in the heart of Tokyo.


Marvel at the contemporary art collection of Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art


The Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art is set to reopen on March 18, 2023, offering visitors a chance to experience contemporary art from around the world. It was first opened in 1989 as Japan's first public contemporary art museum on the slopes of Hijiyama, a small mountain featuring stunning views of Hiroshima.

The museum houses approximately 1,700 permanent works, in addition to special exhibitions designed to inspire and engage. The museum also offers a wide range of learning programs, including workshops, lectures and artist talks.

Discover ancient worlds at the reopening of the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum


The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is all set to reopen in summer 2023. As one of the top dinosaur museums in the world dedicated to dinosaur research and education, it is also the largest of its kind in Japan.

The museum’s location of Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture is home to Japan’s largest and most prolific dinosaur excavation site, making it the perfect location to explore the world of dinosaurs. The museum includes dinosaur skeletons, fossils of other animals and plants, dioramas featuring dinosaur life reconstruction models, and spectacular dinosaur animatronics that realistically display the powerful motions of these prehistoric creatures.

Enter a wizarding world at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo - The Making of Harry Potter


Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo is a brand-new walking tour that will take visitors behind-the-scenes of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films to learn about the remarkable world of film production. Showcasing iconic sets such as the Great Hall, Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts Express on Platform 9 ¾, fans will also enjoy lots of fun activities including riding a broomstick, drinking a refreshing Butterbeer, appearing in a portrait by one of Hogwarts’ moving staircases and shopping from a huge range of products, many of which are only available at the Studio Tour. 


The wizarding world of Harry Potter will soon be available in Tokyo.

This will be the largest indoor Harry Potter attraction in the world and visitors can expect to spend around four hours exploring the only Warner Bros. Studio Tour to open in Asia. Building on the success of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - the Making of Harry Potter which has maintained outstanding visitor ratings since opening in 2012, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo will feature exclusive sets only available in this location.

The JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW is a highly anticipated event for anyone interested in the latest advancements in mobility and transportation.
