Eco-friendly bamboo lantern illumination at the Akame 48 Waterfalls of Nabari, Mie

East Nara Nabari Tourism Marketing

Located in Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, Akame 48 Waterfalls is a well-known attraction in Muro Akame Aoyama National Park, which lies across Nara and Mie prefectures. This mysterious valley with clear streams is said to be a former training ground for ninjas.

During the autumn nights, 2,000 hand-carved bamboo lanterns illuminate the valley and create a fantastic atmosphere with a background of colored leaves. This event embraces the spirit of ecotourism, which aims to conserve the environment. All the lanterns are reused and made out of excess bamboo left over from the land management efforts in Nabari.
