Kikuchi Valley is located in a corner of the Aso-Kuju National Park, and is also designated as a natural recreational forest where people can relax and enjoy a break. Many people visit throughout the year, and the number of foreign tourists has increased in recent years.
Kikuchi Valley is popular during the fall foliage season, and Momijigase, where the autumn leaves are particularly attractive, is covered in a carpet of autumn leaves and is very beautiful.
Hirogawara also has beautiful autumn leaves, and many photographers come here every year.
You can also enjoy a simple snack at the Kikuchi Valley Visitor Center, an information dissemination facility located within Kikuchi Valley. The grilled yamame trout and local chicken are especially popular dishes and have a reputation for being delicious.

How to get there
From Hakata Station, take the Kyushu Shinkansen to Shin-Tamana Station. Rent a car from Shin-Tamana Station and head to Kikuchi Valley.
Alternatively, you can rent a car from Hakata Station and arrive at Kikuchi Valley in about 2 hours.
There are no buses or trains to Kikuchi Valley.
