Enjoy blooming peonies all year round at the beautiful and unique garden of Yuushien on Daikon-shima
Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture
Daikon-shima is an island in Matsue that is known for being Japan's largest producer of peony flowers. On this island, one will find the beautiful, tranquil Japanese garden Yuushien. Peonies bloom all around the island every spring, but in Yuushien, you can admire them all year round thanks to its climate-controlled peony house. The best time to view peonies in Yuushien is late April to early May, when you can enjoy special displays you won't find anywhere else in Japan, such as the stunning sight of 30,000 peonies arranged on one of the garden’s ponds.
In addition to the peonies, new flowers bloom every season in Yuushien, with related events to enjoy. With spring comes the tulip, summer boasts the hydrangea and Japanese iris, fall welcomes the fall colors, and winter exhibits the winter peony. Similar to the springtime display of peonies, in the fall, you can enjoy the sight of countless dahlia floating on the pond’s surface.
