Explore a brewery and create your own custom-blended sake in Shimonoseki
Shimonoseki Tourism & Convention Association
Get a crash course in all things sake at the Shimonoseki Brewery, located in Shimonoseki City in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Established in 1923 by 445 local farmers, the brewery has produced a number of beloved sake varieties for over 100 years.
Learn all about the intricacies of Japan’s iconic brew during a special tour that includes a guided visit of the brewery, a sake seminar, and creating your very own sake blend.
Follow an expert sake sommelier to learn about the history of the Shimonoseki Brewery and the sake-making process. During the seminar, the sommelier will discuss the characteristics of sake, how to taste it and the differences with other types of alcoholic drinks.
The most unique part of the tour is creating your own personal sake blend, under the sommelier’s guidance. Sample four types of sake using an international standard tasting glass, then blend them to create a one-of-a-kind sake that makes your palate sing. You can then label your bottle with the date, and your name and that of your sommelier, to proudly show off back home.
How to get there
