Enjoy Japanese traditional tea culture in an authentic tea room
Visit Suruga
Situated along the beautiful cherry tree-lined banks of the Asahina River, the Asahina district of Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture is famous for its cultivation of Gyokuro, one of the highest-quality green teas.
Despite the fact that only seven Gyokuro tea farmers remain where there were once 100, the so-called Asahina Gyokuro is still very popular.
Gyokuro no Sato, located amid this peaceful landscape, is a facility where you can enjoy Japan’s unique tea culture firsthand. Hyogetsutei, a tea house that looks out on a gourd-shaped pond, has an authentic tea room where you can partake in the traditional tea ceremony experience with either Gyokuro or matcha powdered tea. A tea ceremony master will serve you the tea with Japanese sweets. You will also learn about the etiquette of the tea ceremony and how to appreciate the tea utensils.
Your visit to Gyokuro no Sato supports the Gyokuro tea farmers of Asahina and helps sustain the unique landscape of their tea farms for future generations.
