Situated on the south end of the Hida Mountain Range and part of the Chubu-Sangaku National Park, Mt. Norikura is one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains. With 23 peaks, seven lakes and eight plains, the mountain boasts diverse natural scenery and magnificent views.
One of the attractions of Mt. Norikura is that it is easily reachable by bus, making it a popular destination for people of all ages. Located at 2072m above sea level, Norikura-Tatamidaira bus terminal is the highest bus stop in Japan and offers access to Kengamine (3026m), Mt. Norikura’s highest peak.
Spend a peaceful time on the highlands of Mt. Norikura among lingering snow, alpine plants, endangered rock ptarmigans, early autumn foliage, and a 360-degree panorama of the Northern Japanese Alps. Enjoy hiking, trekking, climbing, walking on snow, or whatever you feel like. If you are looking for a special experience, you can rent an E-bike and go cycling on Norikura Skyline, Japan’s highest road.

From Nagoya Station take the limited express train to Takayama Station (2hrs 30mins). After you arrive in Takayama, take a bus from Takayama Nohi Bus Center to Hirayu (about 60mins) and transfer to the Norikura Line to reach Norikura-Tatamidaira (about 60mins).
