Go snowshoeing through this mountainous park to experience its winter beauty

Myoko Tourism Management Association

Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park, which straddles Niigata Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture, was established in 2015. It is a mountainous area that receives heavy snowfall in the winter, making it popular among winter sport enthusiasts. Visitors of all fitness levels and ages can enjoy snowshoeing in winter.

Visitors can rent snowshoes from the visitor center near Imori Pond in Ikenotaira. You can then follow the self-guided snowshoe course that starts across from the visitor center and takes you through serene winter forests. The course takes about two hours to complete at a leisurely pace and is suitable for all fitness levels. Alternatively, sign up for a tour with a professional guide and explore other areas of the region from temples to majestic winter waterfalls.

How to get there

Take the Shinkansen bullet train for 2 hours to get from JR Tokyo Station to JR Joetsumyoko Station. Then, transfer to the Myoko Haneuma Line for a 40-minute train journey to Myoko-Kogen Station. From there, Ikenotaira Ski Resort is a 15-minute trip via bus.
