Get that glowing skin with the healing waters of Japanese hot springs

Recommended season

DAY 1

Start your winter trip to the Kansai region with a visit to Kaike Onsen, one of the most popular seaside hot spring resorts in the San'in region. Facing the Sea of Japan, Kaike Onsen is accessible by plane from Yonago Kitaro Airport and by train from Yonago Station. It is located in the northern part of Yonago City and has a beautiful coastline with white sand and green pine trees and a view of Mt. Daisen, the highest mountain in the Chugoku region. Kaike Onsen is also known for its skin and health benefits. Enjoy a relaxing stay at the hot spring resort.

DAY 2

On the second day, you will go to Sakaiminato first, about 35 minutes by bus. It is known as the birthplace of Shigeru Mizuki, author of the famous Japanese Yokai Manga "Gegege no Kitaro". Take a stroll around the shopping street where numerous objects, including bronze statues featuring Yokai, have been displayed. In the afternoon, take a bus to Yuushien Garden, a Japanese garden with an area of 10,000 tsubo (33,057sqm). At Yuushien Garden, you will be able to appreciate the rare types of peonies and the flowers that bloom in the garden. On the way, enjoy the view of the steep and majestic Eshima Ohashi Bridge from the bus window.

DAY 3

On the third day, you will start from Kaike Onsen and reach Tottori Hanakairo Flower Park, one of the largest flower parks in Japan, via Yonago Station. You can enjoy the flowers of each season all year round. The most popular experience is to press flowers into key rings and straps. Afterwards, visit Adachi Museum of Art, which has a collection of modern Japanese paintings, ceramics and children's paintings. The museum is very popular not only for its artworks but also for its beautiful Japanese garden.

DAY 3 ANOTHER ROUTE

On the third day, you will travel from Kaike Onsen to Daisen White Resort where you will enjoy skiing, sledging and other activities in the snow. Afterwards, visit Adachi Museum of Art to see a collection of modern Japanese paintings, ceramics and children's paintings. The museum is very popular not only for its artworks but also for its idyllic Japanese garden.

DAY 4

Travel to Matsue Station via Yonago Station. After dropping off your luggage at the station, head off to explore Matsue Town. Matsue Castle, the symbol of the town, offers a stunning view of the dynamic structure! Afterwards, enjoy a boat ride along the 3.7km Horikawa River that surrounds Matsue Castle, where you can experience a tea ceremony with Japanese sweets. In the afternoon, visit Tamatsukuri Onsen and try making Magatama, one of Japan's prehistoric and ancient ornaments. You will be fascinated by the beautiful shape of the Izumo style magatama.

DAY 5

On the fifth day, you will go sightseeing in Izumo. To reach Izumo, it takes about 30 minutes by JR train from Tamatsukuri Onsen. First, visit Izumo Taisha, well-known for the god of matchmaking and good fortune. Renting a kimono is a must, and you will feel dignified, with your back straightened as you visit the shrine. There are many national treasures and cultural assets in the vast premises. For lunch, try the famous Izumo Soba. Izumo gourmet food at Goenyokocho and Izumo's famous Zenzai at the Monzenmachi shopping street are recommended.
