600-year-traditional performing arts experiences

Recommended season

DAY 1

Our journey to Oita and Fukuoka starts from Yufuin. From Fukuoka Airport, take the subway to Hakata Sta., and then take the JR Yufuin no Mori to Yufuin. Yufuin is one of the largest hot spring resorts in Japan in terms of the number of sources and the amount of water that flows out. Yufuin has many attractions other than hot springs, such as an observation deck overlooking the famous Mt. Yufudake, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the mountain scenery and the town of Yufuin. There are sightseeing spots such as Sagiridai and Lake Kinrin with its fantastic morning mist, and Yunotsubo Kaido Street.

DAY 2

On the second day, take a tour in Yufuin on a horse-drawn carriage, going through peaceful countryside. We recommend that you start from JR Yufuin Sta. and return to the station via Bussanji Temple and Unaguhime Jinja Shrine. Feast on local cuisine for lunch, prepared with local ingredients from the area, and then go cycling for a spectacular view! From the trailhead of Mt. Yufudake, which is about 800 meters above sea level, to the center of Yufuin, you can ride your bicycle through vast nature and visit tourist spots.

DAY 3

After checking out of the hotel, head to the castle town of Kitsuki, located in the northeastern part of Oita Prefecture. Rent a kimono and take a stroll around the town. On the way, you will have a chance to try green tea at Nomitei, an elegant samurai residence. After learning how to drink powdered green tea and experiencing the variety of Japanese sweets, take a 2-hour and 30-minute JR train ride from Kitsuki Sta. to Hakata, where you will spend the night.

DAY 4

On the fourth day, you will go sightseeing in Fukuoka. First, you will go to Yanagawa to experience river rafting.
From the boat, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Yanagawa, with its ditches and willow trees overhanging the river in the historic castle town.
You can also enjoy the boatman's skillful handling of the rod and his light-hearted narration. For lunch, try the famous unagi cuisine. In the afternoon, you will visit the Morimoto Noh Stage in Tenjin, where you will not only see the traditional art of Noh, but also touch Noh masks and costumes, which you cannot see often, and have the rare experience of going up on the stage.

DAY 4 RUTE LAIN

"From Hakata Sta. to Shiga Island. Pick and enjoy the sweetness of freshly picked strawberries at a strawberry farm.
Have a great time with family and friends at Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, where you can enjoy seasonal flowers and animal encounters in its vast grounds, and at the aquarium, popular for its diverse shows and experiences."
