A kawaii hot pot experience in Shibuya

Melt your bear at Kumachan Onsen

Kuma-chan Onsen in Shibuya, Tokyo’s center of youth culture, is unlike any shabu shabu hot pot restaurant in Japan – it even went viral on social media for its playful take! “Kuma-chan Onsen” literally means “teddy bear bath” so meals at this restaurant are served with a cute little teddy bear-shaped collagen jelly sitting in the middle of the hot pot! But the bear is not just a decoration – it will turn into a delicious broth once you heat it on the stove! Just as its name suggests, the bear will look like it's taking a hot bath when it's halfway melted, and once your bear is fully dissolved, you can start dipping the meat in the broth.

One order of the hot pot is one serving. First, choose the type of broth – there are seven flavours, from soy to chicken and spicy Sichuan, which come in three different bear colours (orange, brown, and white). Then choose your meat – beef, pork, lamb, chicken, or a combo. All meals come with vegetables, dipping sauce, and your choice of gyoza dumplings, ramen, or Korean tteokbokki!
