The architecture of the Aomori Museum of Art is inspired by the Sannai Maruyama Jomon Archaeological Site next door. Display spaces are built like it has been dug into the ground rather than being built above it. The museum has both permanent and temporary exhibitions by famous artists such as Munakata Shiko, Nara Yoshitomo and Toru Narita. There is also a huge 8.5 metre tall Aomori-Ken dog statue that is created by Nara Yoshitomo. As the dog statue is an outdoor exhibit, it would be fun to take a photo with the statute covered with snow during the winter season.
