Yamagata prefecture produces a whopping 70 percent of Japan’s cherries. There are more than 400 cherry farms where you can pick cherries. Sagae City is said to be the best cherry town in Japan since this is where 300 cherry farms are concentrated at. Yamagata receives little rain even during the rainy season and this creates a perfect environment for the cherry trees. The best time for picking cherries is in the summer season (June to July) and you can enjoy all-you-can-eat fresh cherries for 30 to 60 minutes.
