Be greeted by the sight of 1.5 million tulips when you step into Gosen’s Sumoto region in Niigata Prefecture. Springtime in tulip territory is a kaleidoscope of blooms that culminates in the Gosen City Tulip Festival in mid-April.
To increase the variety of tulips, bulbs from Holland were recently brought in to give the Festival’s blooms an additional splash of color. Getting to Sumoto is a 10-minute taxi ride from Gosen Station on the JR Banetsu West Line or a 10-minute car ride from the Yasuda IC on the Banetsu Expressway.
