In Hanamaki, you will be spoilt for choice with various hot springs. Set along the magnificent view of the Hanamaki mountain range, Hanamaki Onsen is one of the best known hot spring areas in Iwate prefecture. In this hot spring resort, there is a sundial in rose garden designed by Kenji Miyazawa, a famous poet from Hanamaki city. Hanamaki Onsen is also where a famous general of the early Heian period (8th Century), Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, was said to have healed his injuries.
