Oboke And Koboke

~Majestic Sculptures Carved By Nature~

An approximately 8-km long canyon created by 200 million years of erosion by the Yoshino River. The emerald green water and the canyon walls standing like grand sculptures give a true sense of nature’s overwhelming beauty.

◆A valley to enjoy in every season

In spring, cherry blossom and rhododendrons bring the rock face to life with colour. From mid-March to the end of May, carp-shaped streamers donated from all over Japan straddle the river and swim through the air. In summer, the emerald green water looks even more beautiful surrounded by lush greenery. In autumn, vibrant red leaves fill the gorge from bottom to top. In winter, a sightseeing boat called Kotatsu operates from December to February, giving you the perfect vantage point from which to enjoy the spectacular snow-covered valley.

◆Experience the thrill of whitewater rapids

Rafting rivers are graded from Class 1 to 6. Yoshino River is a Class 4, and one of the world’s leading whitewater rafting rivers. Although there are rapids, there are also gentle courses that can be enjoyed by beginners, children and the elderly. Seeing as you’ve come all this way, it would be a shame not to experience the thrill of rushing down the river while being sprayed by water in some of the most picturesque scenery imaginable.
