Discover one of Japan’s oldest performance arts

Pull back the curtain on Noh, one of Japan's oldest performing arts. At Kurokawa Town in Yamagata Prefecture, the traditional dance-drama has been performed for over 500 years. Visit a Noh theater to hear locals share their stories about the performance art, before heading to a shrine famous in the area for Noh performances. Take the opportunity to dress up in Noh costumes and masks under the instruction of a Noh master.

When to go: All year
