The Goto Islands, located off the coast of Nagasaki Prefecture, offer the unique opportunity to cycle through history. Recommended routes include the 41-kilometer-long Kamigoto Island Route in the southwest, and the 77-kilometer-long Shimogoto Island Route in the northeast. Cruise past the cobalt blue sea at Takahama Beach, enjoy dynamic views of the coast at the Osezaki Lighthouse, and stop to visit the UNESCO-recognized Hidden Christian Sites such as Kashiragashima Church, and the historic Dozaki Church. Be sure to stop and sample Goto udon, a regional variant of Japan’s delicious noodle dish.
